Our conditions for renting a car in NZ

Terms and conditions stated on the Vehicle Rental Agreement signed prior to your rental car being supplied will apply.

Prices

All rates for renting a car are in New Zealand Dollars. 12.5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in all rates.

Kilometre Allowances

For one and two day hires there is a mileage quota allowance up to 100 kilometres per day. For distances that exceed this quota, an additional charge will be applicable. Renting a car for three or more days is not subject to this quota and there is unlimited mileage.

Operating Times

Our doors are open for business every day except Christmas Day. We only operate for confirmed bookings on public holidays.

Licencing Requirements

All drivers of our New Zealand rental cars must be 21 years or older and must supply an English non provisional licence. Non English licenses (e.g. International licences) must have attached an English translation. There is no extra charge for additional drivers, but nominated drivers must present their licences before commencing hire.

24 Hour Rental Calculations

We calculate rental days on a 24 hour basis from the time of pickup.

Cancellation Policies

A full deposit will be refunded less the deposit charged, if a booking is cancelled seven days prior to the rental start date.

Cancelled bookings with less than seven days notice will be eligible for a 50% refund.

For cancellations giving less than one days notice, a minimum of 3 days hire will be charged or 50% of the booking (whichever is greater).

Clear the Air

To respect our customers' health we have a no smoking rule for all our New Zealand rental cars. A $100 cleaning charge is applied if this rule is not respected.

Breakdown and Roadside Assistance

All New Zealand Rent a Car vehicles are covered by a Roadside Assistance programme.

One Way Vehicle Rental in New Zealand

We do offer one way car rentals, however a minimum hire period and a one way fee may be applicable. The New Zealand Rent a Car Fastquote system will calculate these charges when you book online.

All Major Credit Cards Accepted

We accept American Express, Bank Card, Visa, and MasterCard. Payment is required at the commencement of the hire. Alternative payment methods are available but must be agreed by prior agreement.

Credit Card Surcharges and Fees

There are no surcharges or fees for payments made by credit card for our New Zealand rental vehicles.

Booking Confirmations by Email

Please check your email inbox for booking confirmations. If you use Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo email systems, always check your spam folders for your booking confirmation messages if they fail to display in the inbox.

Failing to Arrive for a Booking

If you fail to arrive for your rental car booking and do not notify us with at least 24 hours notice with your intention to cancel, we reserve the right to charge you for the full rental cost.

Classification and Substitution

We can't make guarantees for specific makes or models of vehicles, we only guarantee the classification. We will try and disclose the class of your rental car at reservation time and reserve the right to upgrade the vehicle class. Upgraded vehicle classes incur no extra charge.

Courtesy Pick Ups and Delivery Service

We offer a courtesy pick up service from any location within 5 kms of our depot. We provide this during normal business hours. Outside of these times this service is only available by prior arrangement. An additional fee may be charged.

Standard Insurance Cover

Standard insurance has a maximum potential liability of $1,500. Full exclusions to this liability are contained in the auto rental agreement but include:

Where the driver is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Where the vehicle is in an unsafe condition that arose during the course of the hire
The vehicle is driven by an unauthorised or unlicensed driver
The vehicle is wilfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or driver
Where the driver is driving on the wrong side of the road

Insurance Excess Reduction (IER)

At the time of hire, hirers will be offered insurance excess reduction (IER). This reduces the maximum potential liability from $1,500 to a maximum of $200. The additional cost for IER is quoted on the website.
